Since it is almost summer it was time to make new pillows for my chairs outside.
For the centers I used Passion Lily Fern Green, by Amy Butler, and Blue Rose Garden, by Patricia Bravo. The stripes are made out of a Batik Bali Pop, Kiwiberry.
My cat already claimed one! He always gets the best seats...
I’m entering this project in to the Summer Sewing Contest:

Today I made tomato orange soup. It was quite good! I found an English recipe for you. This week I also want to make a banana bread. Doesn't that sound great?!

Tomato Orange Soup
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1/2 medium onion, diced
  • 2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
Directions:
  1. In a saucepan melt butter, add onion and saute until translucent. Add tomatoes, salt, pepper, baking soda and thyme. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered about 15 minutes or until slightly thickened.
  2. Puree in a food processor or blender; strain through a sieve or food mill. Return to saucepan and stir in orange juice. At this point, the soup can be refrigerated until ready to serve.
  3. At serving time, add the whipping cream and heat gently, stirring constantly, bringing to a simmer and adjust seasonings if necessary.
  4. Extra cream may be drizzled on top of the soup immediately before serving for a decorative effect

Banana bread
Ingredients
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar free applesauce
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 3 mashed overripe bananas
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. In a separate bowl, mix together applesauce and honey. Stir in eggs and mashed bananas until well blended. Stir banana mixture into flour mixture; stir just to moisten. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
  3. Bake in preheated oven for 60 to 65 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack.

Time flies when you're handquilting!
In the meanwhile I made these little things. I couldn't just sit on the couch and quilt all the time. I'm not even half way yet, so there are more little projects to come. Maybe a bit more crocheting or I'll start a new quilttop. We'll see....

There are so many inspiring and creative blogs out there. Here is my top 5:
1. Raising homemakers, although I'm not raising children, I do want to serve the Lord and my husband with my home and my homemaking. This blog puts that in a good perspective. I love their post about Queen of your home.
2. Film in the Fridge, Ashley makes the most beautiful modern quilts! Look at her latest mini quilt. Isn't it lovely?!
3. Aimee writes her blog at HomeSpunThreads, home...where your story begins. She writes about faith, crafting, homeschool and about her boys. I enjoy her biblestudies about marriage and her views on organizing your home (I really need that ;).
4. In His Grace, art for your soul. Chrissie is a true artist! Her paintings are full of color and of her faith. Awesome!
5. Coco Rose Diaries. Vanessa shares her love for vintage, home makes, all things pretty and crocheting. Her work makes me think about picking up some wool and crochet needles again!

My first mosaics is made out of all my sewing projects in 2011. I'm curious to find out what 2012 brings!! I have a few ideas for new sewing projects, but I'm also starting a new job in February! How exciting! Whatever the future holds I know that nothing can separate me from the love of Christ. Isn't that a great promise to hold on to?
_My second mosaic is for the Blogger's choice contest  at Quokka Quilts.

If I were ever asked to make a Blogger's choice fat quarter bundles this would be it:
_It took me so long to put one together. When I thought that I had finally narrowed it down to 13 prints, the colors didn't really jump out! So I went back and changed a few prints here and there. This is the final result. What do you think?

If you would like to make your own, go over to Quokka Quilts. It is so much fun!!

_It has been very quiet here. In the meantime a lot has happened in my home. In December I've ...

I did it again...

I started with a few new projects, even a brown one! I told myself over and over again that I didn't need anymore projects going on. I still have my big gray quilt to be hand quilted, but yesterday Aneela Hoey inspired me with her bird embroidery. So I decided to make myself one. Maybe it'll end up in a pillow. I also started to make a bag in red and blue. That's all new to me!

Today I tried canning fruits for the first time. I used this video as an example. I'm very excited and curious too!!

Yesterday I didn't get a chance to make pictures. My six cushions are finished!! I'm so pleased with the results. I finished some more projects and I worked some more on my big quilt. The hand quilting doesn't go as fast as I would like to.

Completed projects:
- Side swap (for Wendy): Fall mug rug swap

- A small acorn to go with the two mug rugs
(I couldn't find a pattern for it, so I combined a pattern from the Moda Bake Shop and a picture of a fabric acorn that I found online)

- Six cushions for my dining room table

- Tilda pillow in brown and pink

Ongoing progress:
- Black white quilt

No progress:
- T-shirt quilt
- Restore an old quilt, made by my husbands grandmother

My last project were all brown, grey and black. I want some color now!! Maybe I'll start with a bag in blue and red or a pink quilt. Maybe a quilt in blue and green or some lovely pillows. I have more than enough ideas, if only I had more time to finish it all!

After a busy week I'm glad that it's finally weekend!!
This week I've been working a lot, catching up with friends, quilting at the bee, running errands, finishing two more chair cushions, doing a biblestudy and I bought myself a lovely magazine and some more fabric!

I've been telling myself that I have more than enough fabric, but at the quilt bee in September I fell in love with this cute brown with pink flowers. Last time I couldn't help myself and I bought it anyway! I chose a matching brown and some pom-pom ribbon to go with it. It would make a lovely pillow, don't you think?

The awesome biblestudy I did this week was about marriage. It is called 'Meet Me in the Laundry Room' and it is hosted by Aimee at HomeSpunThreads. If you would like to participate in this 40-day biblestudy challenge , you can check out her blog and start participating!

In my last post I showed you one of my new chair cushions. I finished two more this week!! Only three more to go!

One of those cushions worked out so well that I decided to submit it to Celebrate Color!

This past weekend was full of sewing. My husband offered to cook Saturday and Sunday night! (He made this delicious salmon wrapped in basil with vegetables out of the oven). So I had more than enough time to sew and do other crafty things. Here's an overview of my productive weekend!

I even finished another Fall mug rug and a little extra to send along with that mug rug, but I won't show that until my partner has received it in the mail!
Recipe folder for a colleague
A folder to put recipes in, decorated with decopatch, for the anniversary of a colleague.
All my colleagues added one of their own recipes to the folder.
Tea box decorated with decopatch
With the leftover decopatch I decorated my wooden tea box.
PIncushion
A pincushion for myself!
Left is after, right is before
I wanted to change the cushions on my dining room chairs for a while, but after three years I finally started. Hooray! One down, five more to go!!
